Team Guyana lost 1-2 to host nation and defending champions Trinidad and in the final of the Guinness Caribbean Street Football Challenge in Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday.
Alpha Fletchman netted Guyana’s goal. For their showing, Guyana will collect US$2,000.
Trinidad and Tobago pocketed US$4,000 and will receive the opportunity to participate in a FIFA sanctioned coaching course for all members of the team. In the semi-final stage, Guyana led by Deon Alfred overcame St. Vincent and the Grenadines by a 3-1 score line.
Rensford Coleridge netted a solitary strike in the win. In the third placed playoff, St. Vincent and the Grenadines defeated St. Lucia 3-1. St. Vincent and the Grenadines for their efforts collected US$1,000.
Guyana had initially earned a spot in the semi-final round after defeating St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia and Dominica respectively in their Group-A matches while Trinidad and Tobago emerged Group-B winners after defeating Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda and St. Vincent and the Grenadines respectively.
