Two men were yesterday released on self-bail after they were charged with stealing electricity, when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Claude Williams of Lot 6 Belladrum Village, West Coast Berbice and mechanic Rudolph Bourne both denied that they unlawfully directed electricity to an East La Penitence premises on June 2nd.
Williams’s attorney expressed surprise at the laying of the charge against him in the light of the revelation to the police that he does not reside at the premises that the electricity was directed to, but only visited to remove the belongings of his deceased cousin.
After Prosecutor Bharat Mangru made no objection to bail, the two were placed on their own recognizance and the case was adjourned until June 27, when it will be called in Court Six.
