A Venezuelan national who overstayed her time in Guyana was yesterday fined $30,000.
Liliana Rodrigues, through an interpreter, accepted that between May 11 and June 7, 2014, at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, she failed to comply with conditions subject to which a permit was granted, by overstaying her time.
Rodrigues was permitted to stay until May 10, 2014.
At the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, Prosecutor Bharat Mangru indicated to Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry that the facts were as charged after which no further details were given.
The interpreter, after conversing with Rodrigues, reported to the court that while the defendant’s visa had May 10 as the date of departure, upon her entry into Guyana her passport was stamped with a three-month period of stay.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry before whom the matter was called informed Rodrigues that she was being fined $30,000 with the alternative of two weeks imprisonment.
