An armed man managed to escape with roughly $1.3 million in cash after robbing the Campbellville Post Office yesterday morning.
According to the police, at approximately 8:35 am, the robber, who was armed with a handgun, entered the Campbellville Post Office, where he held up the Postmaster and staff, stole the cash, and escaped on a waiting motorbike.
Public Relations Officer of Guyana Post Office Corporation Telesha Whyte subsequently told Stabroek News that details of the robbery are still sketchy. While noting that the police are currently investigating, she said that sum of money reported to have been taken by the robber is only the initial finding and explained that the office is being audited to discover if there are additional losses.
As a result of the robbery, the post office was closed for the day.
