Two goldsmiths yesterday found themselves before a city magistrate on a charge that they stole a woman’s smartphone.
Kelvin James and Raymond Hinds, who were brought before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, denied the allegation that they stole a Samsung Galaxy S3, valued $108,000 from Fiona Hercules, on June 10.
Hinds gave his address as Lot 25 D’Urban Street, Lodge and James gave his as North West District, Mabaruma.
Prosecutor Bharat Mangru subsequently said that James told the police he resides at Lot 29 D’Urban Street, Lodge.
Citing this apparent conflict in addresses, Prosecutor Mangru objected to their bail application.
James, at this point, informed the court that indeed he resides in the North West District but whenever he is in Georgetown, he stays with his cousin at the D’Urban Street address.
The magistrate later overruled the objection, set bail at $120,000 for the two men and transferred the case to Court Two for June 16.
