Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Damien O’Donohoe, Thursday confirmed that despite the recent passing of the Cricket Administration Bill, Guyanese will still be treated to their quota of three matches in next month’s CPL T20 cricket tournament which bowls on July 17 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
During a brief SKYPE teleconference at Digicel’s Kingston head office, O’Donohoe, who spoke live from Trinidad, indicated that provisions were being made to ensure that this year’s tournament which earned the title of “The biggest party in sports”, outshone that of the inaugural leg in 2013. “We spent a lot of time getting feedback from the players and the fans to ensure a vastly improved event this year,” he said.
O’Donohoe gave confirmation that a bevy of ex-cricket stars such as West Indies batting great Brian Lara, Australian bowling phenom Glen McGrath and Shane Warne and England all-rounder Sir Ian Botham will be at the event. American rapper Rick Ross is expected to headline a high-profile list of entertainers set to perform on the Final night.
Last year’s finalist the Guyana Amazon Warriors will get proceedings underway when they play the opening match of the tournament on July 11 in Grenada followed by a trifecta of matches in Guyana. St Kitts will make their debut as a venue.
Tickets are expected to go on sale for the Guyana leg on July 1 ahead of the home team’s match against the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel at 7.30pm. The second of the three matches will see Guyana playing the St Lucia Zouks on July 19 from 4pm with the final match on July 20 against their opponents from last year’s final and current champs the Jamaica Tallawahs.
