The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and the Demerara Cricket Club (DCB) have extended congratulations to Guyanese Leon Johnson who was named in the West Indies 13-man squad for the second test match against New Zealand beginning today in Trinidad.
Johnson captained Guyana in the 2014 Regional Four-Day tournament and was Guyana’s lone success story.
“He was consistently scoring substantial amount of runs and took his game seriously” the release from the GCB stated adding that it was urging the left-handed middle order batsman to make maximum use of the opportunity.
“The GCB wishes Johnson all the best hoping he will make Guyana proud and help the West Indies get back to winning ways,” the release stated.
Meanwhile, the DCB also praised Johnson on his selection.
“The Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) player’s achievement comes as no surprise as he has been scoring heavily in all formats for Guyana. He was one of the outstanding batsmen in the 2014 regional Four-Day competition and his service will be a positive one to the West Indies team,” the DCB release stated.
The DCB added that it had recognized and appreciated Johnson’s commitment to cricket and wishes him well with the West Indies team.
