Susanna Da Silva who was shot twice by armed men at Garnett Street on May 17 has been taken to Trinidad and Tobago for further medical treatment.
Her sister, Vanuza Da Silva said the 26-year-old woman who was at a private hospital since the shooting, has been recovering slowly and responding well to medical treatment. When asked about the investigation into the crime, Vanuza said the family has not heard from the police since May 20.
Susanna was on her way to drop off her mother at the Cheddi Jagan International airport when she stopped in Garnett Street to collect a package to be taken overseas. According to reports, a wagon-type car then pulled up and two men exited and began to fire shots.
Susanna attempted to drive off but lost control of the vehicle and ran into a nearby fence as one of the men stood on the road and continued firing shots. The men left after Susanna’s family members raised an alarm inside their home.
The motive for the shooting is still unknown.
Susanna’s father had recollected seeing a similar vehicle in the vicinity at the time Susanna and her family left their Subryanville home and it is believed they were followed. She sustained one gunshot wound to the spine and the other to the shoulder.
