Dear Editor,
I would like to point out an error in the article about me in the June 13 Stabroek News, on page 14. You reported that I said that I often spent many nights studying until 12. What I actually said however was, “I didn’t do anything excessive like staying up until 12.” My father and I had gone into Stabroek News, on June 12, and my father asked to see the article. The person who came to speak to us bluntly refused. If we could have seen the article then this embarrassing error could have been avoided.
What actually helped me the most, was school and the (free) reinforcement lessons given by my class teacher (Mr Stephen Gonsalves). What also paid off was the school mock exams and working past papers. My peers provided stiff competition, and without them I couldn’t have done it.
The main point is, I didn’t stay up late. I had fun.

1. According to what is recorded in the reporter’s notebook, Master Singh said: “I studied a lot but not excessively, not enough to keep me up after 12,” which was not reflected completely accurately in the report. Stabroek News apologises for the careless rendering of his response to erroneously include the words “I often spent many nights…”
2. It was a different reporter who spoke to Master Singh’s father and explained to him that the newspaper does not submit copy for vetting by an interviewee prior to publication, although if he felt uneasy about his son’s comments appearing in the media we would withdraw that portion of the report if he so wished. Mr Singh then turned to his son and asked him if he wanted the interview to appear, and the latter indicated that he did.
