A Pegasus Hotel worker was yesterday admitted to $50,000 bail as he awaits sentencing for stealing six bottles of Hennessy brandy from the hotel.
The charge against Jevon Nelson, 23, of Campbellville, is that on June 14, being employed as a clerk or servant at the Pegasus Hotel, he stole six bottles of Hennessy, valued $48,000.
No further facts of what transpired on the day in question were presented when the case was called at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Nelson accepted the charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, before whom he appeared. When given a chance to speak, he explained that he has already made arrangements to repay his employer as compensation for the stolen alcohol.
The court heard that Nelson has been working at the Pegasus for about one year and five months.
Prosecutor Bharat Mangru informed the court that the defendant is a first-time offender.
In the circumstances, the magistrate ordered a probation report that will be given before sentencing, which is set for July 14.
Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry ordered Nelson to cooperate with the probation officer and informed him that he was admitted to $50,000 bail.
