A murder charge was yesterday read to Asaf Alli and Abdool Shazim Razack, the two persons accused of killing 17-year-old taxi-driver Dhanraj Latchman.
The allegation against Alli and Razack is that between June 10 and June 14, 2014, at the Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo, they murdered Latchman in furtherance of a robbery.
They were not required to plead to the charge when it was read to them by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, before whom they appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The unrepresented men were informed that their case would be transferred to the Leonora Magistrate’s Court, where it will be called on June 24.
After being missing for three days, Latchman, of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, was found dead in a shallow grave near Parika Backdam last Friday.
He had been reported missing to the police two days earlier by his parents after he had left to transport two passengers to Parika, and did not return home. His car was subsequently discovered the day after at Parika.
