A Sophia man brought before a city court on a cocaine possession charge was yesterday remanded to prison after pleading not guilty to the charge.
Malcolm Garraway, of 1492 ‘B’ Field, Sophia, appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and denied that he, on June 16, at Tabatinga, Lethem, had in his possession 1.8g of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
It is the police’s case that, acting on information, police went to a home in Tabatinga where they found the defendant, lying in a hammock.
A search was conducted on his person and a red and white bag containing a white substance suspected to be cocaine was found in the crotch of his pants.
According to Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, Garraway had admitted verbally to the offence. Garraway was remanded to prison until September 1, when he will make an appearance at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court.
