St. John’s College led by a Tyrese Forde helmet trick crushed Sophia Special School by a 7-0 score line when the fourth annual Digicel national u-18 knockout football championship continued at the Eve Leary ground yesterday.
Forde opened the scoring for the winners through a ninth-minute penalty kick conversion following a defensive infringement inside the 18-yard box.
Tafari Persaud would then increase their lead as he netted through a 15th minute strike to the back of the net, after collecting a left-sided pass from Forde within the centre of the area. It would quickly become 3-0 as Tyrone Arthur scored four minutes later following a goal mouth scramble.
The score line would continue to inflate as Forde scored his second goal with a 29th minute effort from another penalty kick conversion. He would complete his hat trick in the 35th minute with a right-footed strike to the back of the net, from inside the area as the Waterloo Street unit further strengthened their position. Arthur would then make it 6-0, completing his double with a 52nd minute effort to the back of the goal. The result would be sealed in the 86th minute as Forde completed his helmet trick.
Over at the Walton Ground in the Region Two conference, New Opportunity Corps mauled Johanna Cecilia Secondary 10-0. David Belgrave broke the early deadlock for the eventual victors as he found the back of the net in the fifth minute.
Ossie Dey would increase their advantage as he found the back of the net in the 10th minute. Stephen Apple would join the goal scoring honours as he netted in the 25th minute. The score line would then become 4-0 five minutes later as Keyoma Pilgrim netted.
It would quickly become 6-0 as Belgrave and Apple both found the back of the net in the 35th and 37th minutes respectively. Keston Brown would then add his name to the scorer’s sheet through a 52nd minute effort.
The onslaught would continue as Shemar Davis found the back of the net in the 69th minute. Belgrave would then complete the lopsided showdown as he netted further strikes in the 76th and 84th minutes to seal his helmet trick.
In the earlier matchup at the same venue, Aurora Secondary crushed Abrams Zuil Secondary by a 4-1 score line.
