Sports Development Director at the University of the West Indies’ Mona Campus and three-time Olympian, Grace Jackson said that the three-day Sports Management Workshop which concluded yesterday was a massive success adding that she hopes the presentations done by the participants are put into effect.
“It think this was a fantastic work shop from many angles,” the 1988 Olympic silver medalist told Stabroek Sport yesterday at the National Resource Centre.
“The participants and their attentiveness indicate a hunger for this kind of knowledge and a desire for changes. Surely from the presenters’ point of view I was able to get a diverse group to be able to highlight the objective of the workshop.”
On Thursday, the 42 participants were divided into four groups and were tasked with presenting the best ways their platform can be put into action. Group one did `Participation in Sports post High School’, Group two was assigned the area of `Building a Sports Culture in Guyana’, Group three made a presentation on `A One Day Sport Event’ and Group 4 did a `Multi-sport Event’.
Group two led by Nicholas Fraser was adjudged the best presenters and Jackson noted she thinks the topics presented “Can go anywhere Guyana where it wants to go.”
The Jamaican mentioned that she was the participants to “continue their network” while urging the media to play its part in making the government more accountable for sports development.
She also stated that she hopes to return since she feels a sense of commitment to Guyana.
“I feel I delivered and I feel connected and I want to help so I will be back.”
The presenters received certificates of participation at the conclusion of the workshop along with a new knowledge of sports management.
Day one (Wednesday) dealt with the Reviewing, Redoing and Revitalizing the Sports Structure (session one), Sports Administrators and Nation Building (session two), Building and Strengthening Sports Associations (session three) and a Group Assignment.
