She wanted to ride and pay later but the unamused taxi-driver drove her to the police station instead where a search unearthed marijuana and Shellon Pilgrim will now have to perform community service at the Palms home for the indigent for the offence.
Pilgrim, a taxi driver who said that she uses cannabis to treat her “cancer” was on Friday ordered to perform community service at the Palms for six months and fined $3000 after pleading guilty to the June 8 charge which stated that she had 2 ½ grammes of cannabis in her possession.
Pilgrim said that on the day in question, she had asked another taxi driver whom she knows to take her to three locations. She said that en route to her first destination, she told him that she had no money but would pay when she had some. However, she said, the man told her that that was not the way business is done and subsequently drove her to the police station.
Pilgrim said while at the police station, she was searched and the illegal substance found. When asked by the court if she was diagnosed with cancer, Pilgrim responded in the affirmative.
She was ordered to report to the Palms every Wednesday to perform community service.
