Chethan Nararyan advanced to the third round after comfortably defeating Rudy Grant on Sunday as the Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA)/ Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) Open Tournament continued over the weekend at the GBTI Recreational Facility in Bel Air.
Narayan, who had beaten Bishan Dalip 6-0, 6-1 in the first round of the men’s 35 and over singles easily defeated Grant 6-1, 6-1.
In the men’s singles, Jason Glasgow got the better of Harry Pandey 6-3, 6-2 while the pair of Kiemo Benjamin/B. Osborne lost to K. Jugdeo/V. Jugdeo 6-2, 6-2 in a men’s doubles encounter.
In Sunday’s final match, J. Andrews/A. Gentle defeated N. Ramdyhan/G. Lewis 5-7, 6-3, 6-6(7-4) after being a set down in their mixed doubles match up. On Saturday there were four winners in the boys 18 singles competition.
In the first match that commenced at 9am, Hemraj Resaul defeated Joshua Kalekyzel 6-4, 6-2 while in the other matches, Mark Mc Donald got past Shomar Sanmoogan 6-0, 6-1, Khalif Gobin won against Shomari Williams 6-1, 6-0 and Malik Williams lost to Craig Campbell 0-6, 1-6.
In the ladies singles competition, Tracy Shamsudeen defeated Diana Bharat 6-3, 6-2 while in a mixed doubles match D. Lopes/S. Gentle outplayed A. Downes/R. Mitchell 6/4, 6/3.
In the day’s final match S. Daly-Ramdyhan/N. Ramdyhan defeated K. Richmond/ D. Barrington to win their ladies double match.
