The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has advised that the inclement weather is affecting the planned activation of the force and delivery mains recently rehabilitated under the Georgetown Sanitation Improvement Programme.
In a statement, GWI quoted its Programme Manager Orin Browne as saying that the consistent rainfall and flooding have cause delays in the activation of the new sewer infrastructure. He is also reported as saying that private contractors, S. Jagmohan/Nabi Consortium, were forced to halt works related to the activation because of flooding at several work sites.
In addition the contractors have advised that executing road repairs during the current inclement weather would significantly affect the quality of work. However, they are monitoring the weather and site conditions closely and will resume works at the required pace when the weather permits, GWI said.
According to the press release GWI in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works will continue to monitor all road repairs being executed by private contractors to ensure high quality.
