Azeem Khan, the Assistant to Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon and a staffer of the Office of the President (OP), was yesterday placed on $100,000 bail after being charged with stealing $1M from a shop.
The allegation against Khan, of Pere Street, Kitty, is that on June 21 at Georgetown, he broke and entered the shop of Rudolph Dyal and stole therein $1M belonging to Dyal.
Khan pleaded not guilty to the charge of break and enter and larceny when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, before whom he appeared.
No details other than those mentioned in the charge were presented in court.
When asked, Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the court that the prosecution had no objections to the defendant being granted his release on bail but requested that conditions be attached.
After the proceedings, Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry informed Khan that he would be admitted to bail in the sum of $100,000 and, at the request of the prosecution, she ordered him to lodge his passport and to report to Constable Samuels at the CID branch of the Kitty Police Station every Friday at 5pm.
The case is due to be called again on July 2.
