Chairman of the ongoing Walter Rodney Commission of Inquiry (CoI), Sir Richard Cheltenham yesterday announced that the life of the inquiry has been extended to September.
He stated that he received correspondence from President Donald Ramotar instructing that the life of the CoI be extended to September.
The inquiry was scheduled to last four months. It commenced in April.
Sir Richard was at the time responding to attorney Basil Williams, who stated that such an extension was not published in the Official Gazette. He said he had written President Ramotar and he had responded that it was extended and the decision would be gazetted.
Williams, however, stated that the Commissioners of the Linden CoI were not allowed to start until the extension for the Inquiry was gazetted. He questioned why the same process was not upheld for Rodney’s inquiry.
