Ramsohai Boodhoo, who is accused of killing his friend during a drug deal in 2011, was yesterday acquitted of the murder charge. Boodhoo, also called “Baigie,” was found not guilty of killing Eon Daniels. It was the prosecution’s case that Boodhoo killed Daniels after accusing him of shortchanging him $500 in a drug transaction at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara. He was tried before Justice William Ramlal and a 12-member jury in the High Court.
After an hour of deliberation, the jurors returned from their chambers with their not guilty verdict and Boodhoo fought back tears as the shackles were removed from his feet.
Daniels, 34, of Last Street, Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, was stabbed in the chest and the wound had reportedly punctured his lungs. He was pronounced dead at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he had been taken for treatment after the stabbing.
According to reports, the attack allegedly occurred after the accused sent Daniels to buy $600 worth of drugs and he returned with $100 worth.
Boodhoo was represented by Peter Hugh, while Dhanika Singh presented the state’s case.
