Family searching for missing schoolgirl, 15

Shivani Kissoon, 15, left home for school on Tuesday morning. She hasn’t been seen since.

A frantic search has been launched by the girl’s parents, who are hoping for her return to home.

Basmattie Sukhai explained that her daughter was last seen around 8:30am when she left their Better Hope, East Coast Demerara home to head for school. Sukhai’s day had gone smoothly until around 5pm, when she returned home from work, only to discover that Shivani had not returned from school.

“I instantly became concerned because she’s normally home at about quarter to three,” the mother said. She decided to check for her daughter at a close friend’s house but the attempt was futile. A check at the school revealed that Shivani had never made it there. A report was lodged with the police shortly after.

However, Sukhai has received no word yet on her daughter’s fate. According to the mother, it is very unlikely that Shivani ran away, which is the assumption that is made by many when young girls go missing. “She’s such a loving person and behaviour like that is very unlike her. She showed no signs of being disturbed or anything,” Sukhai maintained. She further said that, as far as she knew, her daughter was not in a relationship.

“As a mother, I don’t know what to say. Since Tuesday night we’ve been unable to sleep. I can’t say anything about might’ve happened to her; I’m just frantically searching right now,” she added.

The girl’s parents are appealing to the public to aid them with any relevant information on their daughter’s whereabouts. Sukhai can be contacted on 690-0912 and 220-2873 or contact can be made with any police station.
