A man who admitted to slapping a 14-year-old relative was yesterday bonded to keep the peace for one year after explaining that she slapped him with a handbag.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry was Troy Thom, 38, of 59 Amelia’s Ward, Linden, who accepted that on December 30, 2013, at Konawaruk, he unlawfully assaulted the teenage girl.
Prosecutor Bharat Mangru explained to the court that the parties had a misunderstanding during which Thom slapped the girl to the face.
The defendant accepted the prosecution’s facts and added that he slapped her after she slapped him with a hand bag after he had reason to speak to her about a cell phone he wanted to take back from her. The matter was later reported and Thom was arrested and charged.
The magistrate ordered that Thom keep the peace for a year. In addition, a probation report was ordered. Thom was released on his own recognisance. He is due to return to court today.
