Mohendra Persaud is in stable condition at the Woodland Hospital after surviving a brazen attack and robbery which resulted in him being shot twice in the head and once in the leg yesterday morning.
The 48-year-old Edward B Beharry Company Limited salesman was just beginning his day selling stock when at approximately 9:00 hrs a man in his mid-20’s approached and began firing at him. According to the man’s son, Persaud was at Vryheid’s Lust on the East Coast when two men on a motorcycle, who were following the company truck, shot him outside of a grocery store.
Persaud’s son stated that his father had $100,000 that belonged to him and approximately $300,000 in company money, “it wasn’t no big money, they stole from him. They took his wallet and his cellphone and shot him.”
Crime Chief Leslie James told Stabroek News that the police were investigating the incident and looking for two men. He said that the bandits were trailing the company vehicle and Persaud was targeted. James stated that the police would be placing additional patrols in the area.
In April, Bharrat Ramcharan, 57, a sales representative for Patsan Trading was gunned down in broad daylight as he returned to the company’s head office on John Smith Street, Georgetown. James stated that there was concern that such brazen attacks were taking place and that businesses were given prevention tips such as ensuring sales reps were aware of their surroundings and resisting repetitive routes.
