Under the theme “Better Men, Better Families, Better Nations,” The National Family Commission (NFC) will be hosting their National Men’s Rally at the National Cultural Centre tomorrow.
The rally will be addressed by Dr. Myles Munroe, who has visited the country before to participate in the event. In a statement released by the NFC, Munroe said “I am happy to return to Guyana and am looking forward to engaging with men in Guyana again.”
Dr. Munroe believes that the establishment of the Men’s Affairs Bureau is an example of the developments occurring in the area of strengthening men.
Chairperson of the NFC Reverend Dr. Kwame Gilbert said that this visit from Dr. Myles is most opportune “given the crisis facing our families in Guyana as demonstrated in an unprecedented spike in domestic and sexual violence.”
Commenting on the role of men and the current “crisis,” Dr. Gilbert said that “to correct the situation men are required to take up full responsibility of their roles in the family.” These roles, according to him are “ensuring family stability and an enabling environment for the nurturing and development of children, as well as their safety and security of all family members, themselves included.”
It was noted, that the time for the rally is 4:30 pm and it will be held at the National Cultural Centre and not the National Park as was promoted.
Dr. Munroe will also be meeting with national leaders in Monday, and will host a dinner for couples under the theme “Making a marriage that sizzles” at the Savannah Suites of the Pegasus Hotel at 9:30 pm.
