The preliminary report of the 2012 Census is to be released on Monday.
A presentation of the report is to be made at the Guyana International Conference Centre (GICC), the Bureau of Statistics announced yesterday. In a statement, the Bureau said the report is expected to include a preliminary population count, the number of households and the average household size by region, the regional population growth, regional population density, gender distribution and the population distribution by coastland and hinterland regions, amongst other information.
The statement quoted Chief Statistician Lennox Benjamin as saying that the preliminary report is in keeping with a previously outlined timeframe. “The field exercises were completed in December 2012 while the final verification and editing finished in June 2013. Therefore, the preliminary report is being released one year after the final verification process,” he said.
Guyana’s last census was conducted in 2002, when a population of 751,023 was recorded. Census 2012 was part of the United Nations’ 2010 round of global population and housing censuses.
