Come Sunday July 6, Simpli Royal presents the 2014 Mr and Miss Guyana Talented Teen Pa-geant at the National Cultural Centre from 8 pm.
But before that, the 13 contestants, 6 young women and 7 young men will have their Cotillion at the Savannah Suite of the Pegasus Hotel tomorrow night at the same time.
Head of Simpli Royal and Pageant Director Pamela Dillon noted that the theme for this year’s pageant is ‘Gems of Guyana’ and it was revealed that this year’s gems will be on display at a motorcade scheduled for July 3.
The 13 contestants: Stephen Validum, Akeila Day, Mikel Andrews, Desmond Fernandes, Mikhail Rampersaud, Leanna Williams, Daniel Ifill, Felicia Sears, Kimberley Sattaur, Meshack Howard, Breanna Nicholas, Delroy Walcott and Ressa Sooklall were sashed by their sponsors on Sunday last when the pageant was launched.
At the event, held at Herdmanston Lodge, last year’s winning duo Kefa Smith and Tiffani Bonner did duty as hosts. The reception also featured a cocktail mixer and a fashion showcase. The female contestants modelled pieces from Moi Toori Boutique, while the males strutted in designer wear by Nelsion Nurse and Maxi Williams.
The July 6 coronation show will include talent pieces in song, dance and drama along with the usual evening gown, dress wear and swimwear segments. The points garnered in these segments will be added to those tallied from previous contests. Points will also be added from an essay the contestants were tasked to write on either ‘Global Warming’ or ‘Our Culture’.
Highlighting the uniqueness of the competition, particularly since the addition of the male teens last year, Pamela Dillon noted that this year’s gems are chock full of fresh talent.
She expressed gratitude to Fly Jamaica Airways, a primary sponsor of the pageant, along with other corporate partners such as the Guyana Pegasus Hotel, Moi Toori Boutique, National Communications Network, Bonny Alves and Charmaine Blackman and Hits and Jams Entertain-ment.
In addition, the 13 contestants have been sponsored by Randy Madray’s Designs, Y & J Inter-national Cuisine, Blue Mountain Resort, Atlantic Auto Imports, Creative Image, the Thom Family, Grant Enterprise, Williams Digital Services, Sattaur’s Enterprise, Alphonso’s Enterprise, Hotel Glow, Walcott’s Enterprise and the Grand Coastal Hotel.
