Dear Editor,
As an AFC Councillor on the Region 5 RDC, I wish to express my disappointment over the non-response by the council to a number of issues affecting residents:-
1. I have asked for the Rosignol Line-top, which has been used as a market for years, not to be used to dump garbage, but to be developed and stalls legalized so vendors can pay a fee and continue to sell there. This place remains in a bad condition, but the RDC is not listening to me, resulting in vendors selling in insanitary conditions.
2. All housing schemes in West Berbice have only one main access road, which is located in the middle of each village. I have been pressing the RDC to make other access roads on both ends of the scheme, so that people are not forced to walk to the middle of the village in order to reach the main road, which could be quite a distance from their homes and cause hardship and security problems, especially at night.
3. I have also been calling for the playfield at Belladrum to be developed by renovating the pavilion and clearing the fields, but the RDC has not made these simple demands priority issues which is causing frustration among residents.
Yours faithfully,
Basdeo Narine
AFC Councillor
