Those who are advocating the gay and lesbian lifestyle should consider that the right to do something or to live a certain way does not make the action or lifestyle right. While people have the right to choose, it is their responsibility to ensure that they choose right. For example, a person has the right to choose whether he or she wants to continue to live or die. Yet, the state prohibits a person from choosing to take his or her own life. If that person chooses to attempt suicide, it is a crime not only against self but the state also.
If there is no law, no division between right and wrong in society, there will be anarchy. That is why laws are laid down. The English law of 1533 made certain choices relating to homosexual activities in England punishable by death.
The Bible is the supreme law book of those who want to follow its teachings. Thousands of years ago, it outlined certain principles concerning sexual preference, choice and consequences, where death is the punishment. In the New Testament, while the action is still ‘worthy of death,’ like the woman caught in the act of adultery, Jesus advocated no condemnation, forgiveness and a change of choice. To contextualize the statement, it means that while gays should not be condemned as human beings, their lifestyle choice should not be condoned.
The trend seems to suggest that if enough persons of prominence, power, influence and wealth are advocating a cause, that cause takes centre stage and soon becomes the world’s conscience and mantra. The statuses of many persons around the world who have come out as choosing or supporting the gay lifestyle have certainly glamourized and internationalized it. However, the choice of individuals, whether strategically ensconced in positions of power, wealth and influence or not, in international and national organizations, cannot negate immutable Biblical principles.
