Dear Editor,
I am somewhat amazed to see people who purport to be intelligent and are the watchdogs of a nation being caught up in a fiasco to blatantly overthrow an elected president of one of our main sporting disciplines. These people simply don’t know or probably don’t understand what protocol is.
My firm belief is that those gentlemen should have convened a special meeting with the President and the hierarchy of the GFF and sat down and discussed whatever problems were affecting them. They should have tried to see how best they could solve the issue rather than have some ‘suesueing’ here and another group ‘suesueing’ on the other side. Since they are big men, men of knowledge and integrity I ask one question: Where is the unity and understanding? Where is the love among the executives?
Now for the administrators, coaches, players and avid football fans, who need to wake up, become conscious, open their eyes and not allow themselves to be used as pawns. The clique whose members call themselves saviours have their own agenda. The administrators, etc, may not see it now, but if they allow the clique to have its way, in a few months they will regret ever giving it their support. Those are not the people who should run football in this country. Just take a look at the architect behind this whole fiasco. What good has he done for any sport in Guyana?
And those who are following him ought to hang their heads in shame, because they know the right thing and end up doing nonsense. We need to keep the clique at bay from corrupting this sport.
We must give praise and thanks to FIFA for its timely intervention. Mr Matthias, a man of honour and integrity remains the duly elected President of the Guyana Football Federation, until such time as he is constitutionally voted out of office.
