CHESTER-LE-STREET, England, CMC – Leeward Islands left-hander Chesney Hughes was among the runs but could not prevent Derbyshire from crashing to an eight-wicket defeat to Durham in the English T20 Blast here yesterday.
Sent in at the Riverside Ground, the visitors were dismissed for 125 with five balls remaining in the innings, and Durham strolled to their target off just 13.2 overs, to notch victory comfortably.Opener Hughes led the early charge for Derbyshire, hammering 30 off 16 balls with four fours and a six, before falling in the sixth over with the score on 47 for three.
Namesake Alex Hughes then top scored with 43 not out from 36 deliveries, with two fours and a six, to keep the innings afloat.
Former Jamaica captain Gareth Breese took one for nine from two overs of off-spin.
In their turn at the crease, Durham were carried to victory by opener Phil Mustard with 54 and Ben Stokes who stroked an unbeaten 49, the pair sharing an unbroken third wicket stand worth 61 runs.
