A post-mortem examination has confirmed that popular money changer Wendell Liverpool died as a result of shock and haemorrhage and his family said they have heard nothing from the police about the investigation.
Liverpool, 44, of Lot 453 West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, who was shot by three masked men on June 20, succumbed to his injuries, around 3.15 am on Monday June 23.
Bernice Liverpool, the mother of the deceased told Stabroek News yesterday that the autopsy was done on Friday last, at the Georgetown Public Hospital. The elderly woman said all she remembers being told by her daughter was that Liverpool died as a result of shock and haemorrhage. Another relative added that a warhead and shell were removed from the body.
It was stated that Liverpool was rushed to the GPH after he collapsed at the side of the road following the attack.
Bernice had related to this newspaper that Liverpool had been drinking on the West Ruimveldt main road with some friends. She later received a phone call around 10.30 pm informing her that he had been shot.
Relatives said they have not received any word from the police, with regard to any update on the investigation. Bernice said the last the family heard from the police, was on Friday when the autopsy was done.
A date has not yet been set for Liverpool’s funeral.
