Dear Editor,
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Albion Cricket Club for doing an excellent job in hosting its 2013 presentation of the award ceremony. It was a glittering affair and was graced by dignitaries from all walks of life in Guyana. Kudos are in order for the executives and members of this outstanding club for hosting this event. The only disappointment was the boycotting of the event by the Berbice Cricket Board. Although they were invited, no one turned up. What a shame.
Anyway, as I said, the day’s proceedings went well with excellent presentations by the Minister of Agriculture Dr Leslie Ramsammy – who promised to make Albion the mecca of 20/20 cricket in Guyana now that the ground has international standard lights – the Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board Mr Anand Sanasie, the Regional Chairman of Berbice Mr David Armogan and the Estate Manager of Albion Estate Mr Dev Kumar, among others.
Some of the awardees were Verasammy Permaul, cricketer of the year; Narsingh Deonarine; Devendra Bishoo; Sewnarine Chattergoon; Anthony Bramble; Jonathan Foo; Gudakesh Motie; Sharaz Ramcharran; Balchan Baldeo and many others. Special awards were also given to Mr Lloyd Kanden, Mr Imtiaz Baccus and Mr Sew Misir for outstanding contributions as cricket administrators over the years towards the development of the club.
It was indeed a nostalgic and emotional evening on Sunday, June 29, and for that I must say well done Albion and keep up the good work.
Yours faithfully,
Imtiaz Baccus
