Dear Editor,
There is a view that the calls for the PNC to apologise are misplaced. The PNC Leader points to a need for an apology from the PPP. There is an interpretation here that suggests there is a need for an apology but it has to also be from the PPP. But what happens if the PPP apologises? Would the PNC follow suit? And if both were to apologise would we forgive both, should we forgive both or should we marginalise both?
Even if the PPP apologises it is too late and the wounds are too fresh. The PPP has to go. A lot of time has elapsed and maybe there are many changes within the PNC, but there are still fears. Time will tell how the PNC deals strategically with its past in some effort to remove the fears and maybe demonstrate positive changes. This is necessary in view of its call for a unity government.
One wonders however what would have been like prior to Bharrat’s term in office or for that matter in 1993 before the PPP actually commenced to govern.
In the meantime, the AFC maintains its independence from both of these parties that have the Guyanese people in their vice-like grip. It’s time for race to be shoved to the back burner as the vast majority are marginalized. There is a need for the supporters of these two parties to sever the navel string that attaches them to these two parties. It is time to recognize that they do not serve the country or the Guyanese people.
It’s time to join hands in support of the AFC so that real change could be realized.
Yours faithfully,
Rajendra Bisessar
