Video footage from a Kitty pharmacy may have helped the police to positively identify the gunman who stormed into it on Monday and robbed a woman of $1M, sources say.
Crime Chief Leslie James said the police are still investigating the matter.
At around 10:30am on Monday, the armed man rode up alongside the car the woman travelled in with her husband and ventured inside the Medicare Pharmacy on Sandy Babb Street behind the woman.
Her husband, Andy Mohammed said he got an uneasy feeling and decided to venture into the store behind his wife but by the time he got there the gunman was already pointing his gun at her and demanding that she hand over her bag, which contained the money she had minutes before withdrawn from a bank.
An employee at the store told this newspaper that as soon as the woman entered and stood by the cashier to speak to someone, the man came into the store.
After the gunman snatched the bag, he jumped onto a CG motorbike his accomplice rode and they went off.
Mohammed said he then trailed the men all the way to D’Urban Street, where the men parked the motorbike inside a shop and switched the number plates to a dealer’s number plate and left in a waiting car PRR 6697.
The motorbike was taken into police custody and a woman who was at the shop during the time the men dropped off the motorbike was detained by police officers.
The manager for the drugstore said police officers uplifted the surveillance tapes on Monday evening.
