The Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security on Monday received a donation of $14.1 million from the estate of the late Muriel Wight.
A release from the ministry said that cheques were presented by the Administrator of her estate, Edwin Verasammy (second from left) to the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Lorene Baird.
The release said that the monies received by the Ministry are intended to improve services offered at the Palms Geriatric Home and for abused women and children. A small monetary donation will be given to two identified non-governmental organizations, the release added.
The release noted that Wight nee Fraser had dedicated most of her life to the Guide Movement in Guyana.
