The Georgetown Magistrate’s court sewerage system continues to leak waste and all those attending court yesterday were subjected to foul odour as well as the muck which covered the main pathway of the court.
The inspector on duty complained that the sewerage system which was said to have been dysfunctional from the start is posing not only a threat to the public but to the ranks as well as they are forced to work in the poor conditions. He noted that the effluent also seeped into the phone lines which were no longer working and also flooded one of the two holding cells for the prisoners. This was problematic as he mentioned that placing all of the prisoners in one cell is against protocol.
According to him, officials continue to visit the court and observe the situation, but complained that they are yet to address the problem.
The entire court was rehabilitated over a period of several years but it appears as if the sewerage system was not addressed.
