Accused of stealing over $600,000 in stock from a Barabina, North West businessman and then trying to sell it, labourers Dexter Griffith and Junior Melville yesterday denied the charge and were released on $100,000 bail.
The two men were accused of stealing the items between June 16th and June 28th in the in North West District.
According to Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, the owner of the stolen articles, Nowram Ramroop, secured his premises on June 16th, left, and returned on June 28th.
He soon realised that he was missing a quantity of men’s jerseys, gold jewellery, raw silver and other items, amounting to a $666,000 in total value.
He reported the matter to the police, who later found the two men selling the stolen jerseys. They were subsequently arrested.
With their bail, both men were ordered to report to the Barabina Police station every fortnight until their next court appearance, which is scheduled for the Matthew’s Ridge Magistrate’s Court on August 4th.
