The murder trial of Paul Anthony Lo Hing, who is accused of strangling his girlfriend to death, commenced on Wednesday in the High Court.
Lo Hing was charged with murdering Shoala Gilgeous in their `E’ Field, South Sophia home in 2012. Gilgeous, 23, was found dead by her niece. Prior to the discovery, neighbours and Gilgeous’ sister-in-law had reported hearing the woman screaming.
Gilgeous’ neighbour, Monica Charles, testified that she had heard the couple arguing earlier that day but the house was quiet when she returned to her house. She said she was accustomed to hearing the two fight and argue, therefore, she did not think anything serious had happened.
Gilgeous’ niece also testified that she was the first person to discover the body.
In the court yesterday, a police photographer gave evidence about the crime scene.
The couple had been living together for about 10 months and Gilgeous’ relatives had said she was a victim of domestic abuse and had made numerous reports to police about her situation.
Lo Hing is being represented by attorney Hukum-chand while Natasha Backer is presenting the state’s case.
