A truck driver lost his life yesterday morning after being struck down by a minibus in the vicinity of Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
Lenny Jaisingh, 22, a Sarah Johanna, East Bank Demerara resident, was struck at about 10am.
His brother, Leon Jaisingh, explained that Lenny was employed as a truck driver with Troy Resources Limited-Guyana and had been coming out of the “backdam” with another driver. “He stopped at the highway to check his truck’s backlight and everything before he came back into traffic.
He always makes sure there isn’t any mud or anything on the licence plate because he don’t want any trouble with the police,” the dead man’s brother said.
It was while checking the truck that Lenny was hit by a minibus. Its only occupant was the driver. It is unclear in which direction the bus had been heading.
The injured man was rushed to the hospital by his fellow truck driver along with the driver of the bus that had hit him. His truck was left at the scene.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Woodlands Hospital.
Though the driver had rendered assistance and was at the hospital for some time, he eventually disappeared. Relatives said that they are unsure of whether he is in police custody or not.
