A teenager accused of stealing a woman’s handbag and other items totalling $149,000 was on Friday granted bail in the sum of $150,000 when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
The allegation against Antonio Maraj is that on June 30 at Agricola, he stole from Hemwantie Persaud, one shoulder bag containing a cell phone, house key, cash, US currency, cosmetics and other items all totalling $149,000.
Persaud, 18, of 25 Public Road, Agricola, denied the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Fabayo Azore. His attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat applied for bail for his client and was successful.
The matter will be called again on July 15.
