Nominations for the PNCR’s lead roles, including party leader, ought to be known sometime after July 12, as the party’s General Secretary, Oscar Clarke, says the various groups have until this time to return their nomination sheets.
The PNCR comprises over 150 groups which are spread throughout the length and breadth of Guyana and Clarke says they have all been issued with sheets on which to indicate their nominee(s) to hold executive positions in the party.
A party member told Stabroek News that the groups would have been issued nomination sheets only after their members had been scrutinised. The process of scrutiny would have included ensuring that all listed members are up-to-date with the payment of dues.
Clarke said on Sunday that he does not know that any nomination forms have been submitted thus far but that he expects all such forms will be submitted by the July 12 deadline. Though several members of the party’s executive have expressed interest in maintaining their positions on the Executive Commit-tee, none have shared a willingness to challenge current leader David Granger.
Carl Greenidge, likely Granger’s most able opponent if he were to challenge him, has so far said he has not given much consideration to going up against Granger as he is engaged in other matters. In any case, Greenidge would have to first be nominated.
PNCR members will vote for their leaders during the party’s congress scheduled for July 25 – 27.
