A police sergeant is under close arrest after he was found in possession of a 9 mm pistol last Saturday, the Guyana Police Force said yesterday.
The Force was responding to an article in the Kaieteur News which stated that the rank who was recently promoted discharged the firearm indiscriminately during a drunken spree at a wedding, resulting in guests scampering for cover. The incident, according to the article, occurred at Cane Grove.
“The Guyana Police Force would like to state that while the Police Sergeant is indeed under close arrest as the investigations continue in order to ascertain the circumstances under which he came into possession of the firearm, it is refuting the allegation that the rank discharged the firearm during the wedding celebrations as is stated in the article,” the police said in their press release which was issued yesterday.
