President’s College squeaked past St. Roses High 47-43 in their U-19 fixture when the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) 9th National Schools Basketball Festival (NSBF) commenced on Saturday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.
Shaquille Adonis led the East Coast side with a team high 21 points, six rebounds and three steals. He was supported by Eli Innis who recorded figures of 10 points and seven rebounds in the win.
Nathan Saul led the Church Street institution with a game high 25 points, four assists and as many rebounds. Continuing in the same section, New Amsterdam Technical Institute crushed Mackenzie High in a low scoring matchup 32-18.
Dunash Roopnarine led the offence for the winners with 11 points and three steals while Edmar Simple supported in the win with nine points and five rebounds. Daniel Anthony led the losing effort for the Linden unit with 12 points and four rebounds.
In the final fixture in the division, Plaisance Academy brushed aside JC Chandisingh Secondary by a 47-33 score line. Mallol Powder marshalled the offence for the East Coast of Demerara unit with 15 points, five rebounds and four steals.
He was assisted by Kelvin Yorrick who netted 14 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Michael King was the principal scorer for the Berbicians as he netted 13 points and grabbed four rebounds whilst Kobe Crawford assisted with 10 points and three rebounds.
