Two young men were remanded to prison yesterday after being charged with robbing an elderly man of his bicycle and cash in Albouystown.
Raheem Benn, 20 of 143 William Street, Kitty and Hakim Morgan, 18, of Albouystown, appeared before city magistrate Judy Latchman charged with armed robbery. They both pleaded not guilty.
According to prosecutor Joel Ricknauth, on July 3rd, Julian Whyte was riding his bicycle in Albouystown when the men approached him. One of them allegedly held half of a pair of scissors to his neck, relieving him of his bike while the other searched his pockets for cash and found $2000.
While the two made their escape, Whyte notified a nearby policeman on patrol of the robbery and the rank was able to send a transmission to the other officers on patrol via the police network. The men were identified by patrolmen who heard the transmission and were apprehended. The bicycle, worth $18,000, was recovered.
Ricknauth objected to bail for Morgan as he currently has pending matters in court, however, the magistrate refused bail to both men. They are due to return to court tomorrow.
