Some $70.9M of the $100M that has been allocated by the government for the Le Repentir Cemetery refurbishing will soon be disbursed as tenders for the project were yesterday opened.
The Ministry of Local Government has said that $100M of the total of $500M set aside for the clean-up programme for the city this year is expected to be expended on the venture.
The work on the cemetery, which stretches from St Stephen Street all the way to Princes Street, will entail clearing vegetation, cleaning of the internal drains and repairing the damage to the roads within the cemetery.
Minister of Local Government Norman Whittaker has stated that works will commence next month and should be completed by December.
With the procuring entity being the Ministry of Local Government tenders for the project, which is divided into two lots, were yesterday opened at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) at the Ministry of Finance.
Eleven companies submitted bids and this is shown in the table below.

The National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) received bids for the construction of a drainage pump station at Lima, Essequibo Coast Region Two.
Eight bids were also submitted for the construction of the Greenfield Middle Walk Koker near the railway embankment, East Coast Demerara, Region Four.
Bids were also received for the NDIA’s project for the construction of a revetment at Greenfield, East Coast Demerara, Region Four.
Only one company bid for NDIA’s Environmental Management Plan for the Aurora Land Development Project.
