Two teenagers, caught with a stolen motorbike in Sophia, were remanded to prison yesterday on a simple larceny charge yesterday.
Sheldon Smith and Oswald Headley, both 17, and who live in Sophia, were not required to plead to the allegation that they, on July 5, at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara, stole the motorcycle, which was the property of Ron Fletchman.
It is the police’s case that the duo, on July 6, were caught with the stolen motorcycle on Dennis Street, at 11:30pm by police on patrol in the area.
Police Prosecutor Inspector John Singh told Magistrate Sueanna Lovell that Fletchman secured his motorcycle at 11pm in his yard on the evening of July 5. However, he did not see the same when we woke up the next day.
Singh further mentioned that Fletchman reported the theft to the police, who subsequently apprehended Smith and Headley. Singh urged the court not to release the teenagers from police custody, in light of the fact that they did not satisfy the court with a fixed address. The prosecutor said that the address given to the police by the duo was false. He further objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.
Magistrate Lovell subsequently remanded the teens to prison and adjourned the case until July 21.
