The Boyce/Jefford Track and Field Classic Committee held its fourth annual workshop to address a host of subjects ahead of the annual championships scheduled for August 16-17 at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground.
The workshop, which was held at the Linden Technical Institute, was aimed at informing and addressing subjects such as the philosophy of officiating and the qualities of good competition officials. Senior official Cornell Rose instructed the 40 officials invited on that subject.
The workshop which has become a feature of the organisers of the track and field meet, aims at bringing officials up to date with international practices in athletics. ‘Time Keeping’ and ‘Judging Track and Field Events’ were two of the topics addressed by Rose. Mark Scott dealt with ‘Duties of the Call Room’ and ‘Starts and Duties of the Referees’.
The fifth anniversary of the Boyce/Jefford Track and Field Classic will feature athletes from five countries competing against Guyana’s best for club and individual supremacy. The meet is set to be officially launched at a date to be announced next week.
