A seven-time convicted labourer who admitted that he stole several bars of Cadbury chocolates has been sentenced to 14 days jail and has been remanded to prison while he awaits trial for allegedly threatening to kill a Bounty Supermarket employee.
Derek Persaud, 54, said he stole the chocolates, valued $2,286, on July 9 when he appeared on Thursday at the Georgetown Magis-trate’s Courts. Prosecutor Bharat Mangru did not relate to the court the facts pertaining to the simple larceny charge but he objected to bail on the grounds of Persaud’s prior convictions.
The accused then denied that he used threatening language toward Donna Abrego, the Bounty Supermarket employee from whom he stole the items. Regarding the second charge, Persaud said he only told the woman that “Me and she gon go up the road.”
He was remanded to prison on this charge and ordered to appear in Court 6 for trial on Monday.
