Guyana’s poor showing at the Women’s 2014 Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) championships in the British Virgin Islands continued yesterday with the team falling to their fifth successive defeat; they lost to St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) 69-40.
Defeated in their earlier group matchup 73-57, Guyana’s offensive charge was once again shouldered by Captain Natasha Adler who registered a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds. The next best scorers with seven and five points were Shanna Chester and Tamara Hunter respectively. Vasha Adams led the Vincentians with a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds.
She was assisted by Sorayah Williams who registered 13 points and 11 rebounds and Galeine Gordon who scored 13 points. Trailing by 12 points following a 14-4 opening period, Guyana reduced the deficit in the second stanza as they outscored SVG 19-13.
However SVG bounced back in the third period, outscoring Guyana 18-6 as the third quarter finished with the scores at 46-29. SVG clinched the fixture in the final quarter as they outscored Guyana once more 23-11.
