Food for the Poor Guyana has embarked on a stationery drive to help equip primary school students with basic tools they need, in time for the new school term.
In a press release, the charity said it took the decision to undertake the new ‘back to school’ project after a survey conducted at the primary school level in regions Four, Five and Six revealed that 75% of the 9,602 students in the study lacked basic school supplies.
As such, Food for the Poor has placed a number of stationery bins at several locations across the city to collect items such as pens, pencils, crayons, books, and rulers for distribution to schools. The bins have been be placed at CCS, on Regent Street and Avenue of the Republic; Kojac Marketing on Quamina Street; Metro Computer and Sales at both its Croal and Quamina street locations and Ashmins, High and Hadfield streets. The bins will be collected no later than the second week of August and the items distributed to schools in time for the reopening of the September term.
